The REAL Reason You Can’t Stick to Your Routines
By now, you should already know how important it is to stick to a regular routine. Whether it’s your morning cup of coffee while making your to-do list, a 10 minute meditation before bed or going on a walk outside during your lunch break, we all deserve to carve out some time in our day to dedicate to ourselves.
But for whatever reason, no matter how good your intention is, you just can’t seem to stick to your routine.
So, after 2 or 3 days of trying to get into your groove, you’ve given up again. You may be thinking to yourself that you’re just “no good at being consistent,” or that you “just don’t have the ability to keep that momentum.”
But do you want to know the truth about why you’re not consistent?
Because a good routine isn’t about what you’re doing, it’s about who you are becoming.
We build our habits around our identity. Athletic people work out a lot. Intelligent people read books regularly. Beautiful people spend a good amount of time grooming themselves.
And the same goes for bad habits too. Smokers always have a pack of cigarettes in their pocket. Skin pickers constantly scan their skin for something to pop. Broke people spend their cash on the wrong things.
The real reason you haven’t been able to stick to your routines is because you’re still telling yourself that you’re running out of time, you’re too busy, and that making time for yourself is inconvenient.
Once you start to believe that you’re already the person you’re trying to become, the habits will fall in line without much effort.
If you believe you’re a healthy person, you’re going to put down that junk food.
If you believe you’re a wealthy person, you’re going to always pay yourself first.
If you believe you’re a person that centers mental wellbeing, you’re going to show up to therapy or practice your meditation regularly. Simply because that’s what someone who prioritizes their mental wellbeing would do—and you are exactly that kind of person.
